What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a health condition where boys or men develop bigger breasts due to certain hormonal changes. This can greatly alter their self image which may lead to embarrassment.

How is it Treated?

Each and every case of gynecomastia has different availabe options for treatments. The treatment more often than not depends on the severity of the issue, and the underlying cause of it.

Observation

This is also a step where more diagnostic tests can be done. In layman terms it is ‘waiting for the condition to heal by itself’, the condition may resolve without any treatment like is the case for a lot of people and requires no follow-up treatment.

Regular Check-Ups: The patient is monitored regularly to see if the condition is improving.

Medicine

Hormone Therapy: If imbalanced hormones are the main cause of gynecomastia, medication that balances out the hormones is likely to be given. This usually lessens the intimidation of the breasts.

Other Medicines: At times some other forms of treatment become effective and some type of breast tissue removal. This medicine is usually not widespread. They would also consider other types of aids available to help them.

Surgery oftentimes the last resort

Surgery is usually kept as a last option due to how severe the situation might become if something goes wrong Gynecomastia surgery is often needed if the case is severe or does not simply go away without medication.

This procedure can include

Liposuction: This procedure involves the removal of the gland and changes in the space beneath the jaw. An incision is done at the chest area where fat liposuction is desired, and through the little incision, a tube is placed to remove the fat.Mastectomy: This operation removes some of the breast tissue. It’s usually done for more serious cases.

You may need to adhere to no eating and drinking within certain periods leading up to the surgery.

The Procedure: Almost all operations take place within a surgical facility, such as a hospital. The patient will receive anesthesia, which allows them to sleep through the surgery and not have any feelings or awareness of what is taking place.

Recovery: The patient must follow postoperative directions given by the doctor to promote healing. A period of rest is encouraged. Lifting of any heavy equipment should also be avoided.

Lifestyle Changes

Healthy Eating
